    Starting new position on Monday!

I forgot to tell you... I got the job!

I'm starting on Monday. I'm really looking forward to it!

    Interview finished, awaiting the results

Ok, so I've finished the interview. I could have done better, but now I have to wait and see if I got the job or not. Luckily I only have to wait until the end of the day to find out!

    Job Interview, but getting sick

I have a job interview today. It's for a position that doesn't come up very often. I have a lot of competition and I am getting sick. Being sick shouldn't affect my chances though, I hope. I just need to prepare better. Unfortunately I forgot to get a copy of the ad, so now I can't prepare as well as I might have. Ah well. Wish me luck. The process is fast, and I'll know by end of Monday whether I got the job or (more likely) not.

    System issues

Had a really easy bludge day at work today. Had Tuxedo error, but IT/tech support were ALSO having system issues. Work was to start at 13.15, but I went home at 20.00 Not having done any. I was meant to finish at 22.00 but got sent home early because she decided it was unlikely to be worth waiting any longer. Hopefully it'll be working for me tomorrow. Well... Maybe I'm not really hoping that.

    New job

My new position in an inbound role is alright. A bit daunting at first, but it's getting to be ok. My collegues are really friendly in this group. I'm getting along much better.

    Changes at work

Yesterday they announced they were closing down telstra retail. We got offered other positions in a different campaign though. Luckily I am doing a temporary reassignment that has the same hours and is in the same campaign as my new contract. Some people decided to quit instead of move, and today about  7 people got the sack (they were out of contract, so they didn't have to rehire them) for bad attitude or something like that. One of those 7 people had been there for like 4 years. I feel bad for her, she seemed like a nice person.

Anyway, now I'm in outbound. I'm not quite sure what the work will be exactly. I am still doing the temporary assignment until that finishes.

The temporary assignment has better pay than my previous one, but no commissions (not that I was getting any anyway), and the new position will have worse pay than my old position, but better commissions. I don't mind particularly. I like these hours... though it probably means I'll never be able to attend another Chaser screening again, even if I did manage to get a ticket with these random times.

    Living and working in Sydney

This is a stupid Internet cafe computer: it's blurry in the middle of the screen!

Anyway, I'm now living in Glebe with my friend Leon. We are renting a nice 2 bedroom apartment with good views. I moved in last weekend.

I found it takes me just under one hour to walk to work :-) That's pretty good I reckon. I could catch a bus and get there quicker if I wanted, but why waste money? Besides, it's healthier to walk.

It gets a bit boring in the flat with no TV, but that's just because I'm not used to it. Leon has a TV in the lounge room, but we don't have an antenna for it yet, so there isn't much point watching it.

Living in Sydney is great. It's within walking distance to so many things!

    I got the job! Woohoo!

I got the call centre job in Sydney! Woohoo! I am so happy! I was literally jumping for joy.

I am so happy! This is great!

    Woohoo!

    *bounces around more, singing*

It is a great company that lets you wear casual dress so long as it's not offensive or anthing like that. One of those companies that treats their employees right.

I am looking forward to it. Training (paid) starts Monday the 18th. Five weeks full-time training.

    Waiting to hear back

This morning I got a phone call from one of the companies I had a job interview with last week. They were ringing to let me know they were going to ring my referees today and that they would call in the afternoon and tell me how I went.

I assume this is a good sign. I'm sure my referees will give me positive references, although they may mention I'm a bit quiet, which I hope they don't, because the job is for a call centre.

It's 3.27 pm now. I wonder what time I can expect the call? Probably around 5 pm I suppose. Seeing as one of my referees is a TAFE teacher.

Anyway I really hope I get this part time job. They sound like a really awesome company!

    Interviews in Sydney

Well, I've had three people ring up about applications I put in yesterday. I have two interviews. One tomorrow at 1.30, and one on Wednesday at 10. The second people wanted me to go in tomorrow, but they wanted the same time as my other interview. I am not confident about the interview tomorrow, as the person on the phone was unsure about my limited experience.

I'm thinking maybe it would be a good idea to stay overnight in Sydney tomorrow.

I hope I don't get any sicker. This sore throat is not fun. It's not too bad, I'd be able to go to a job interview and stuff, but it certainly wouldn't help! I hope it doesn't turn into a cold, or laryngitis. That would stuff up my ability to speak.

    Wish me luck!

Congratulate me, for I did well!

I got a TAFE NSW - ILLAWARRA INSTITUTE Outstanding Achievement Award for my Business Administration Certificate III for last year.

Basically means I got top marks in Bus Admin Cert III for my campus, and means I've done very well out of all the students who did the course in the Illawarra campuses last year. Yay!

This is going to look FANTASTIC on my resumé. Now all I need is more experience and finding future work will be MUCH easier.

I am so pleased. I knew I did well, but I didn't know I did THAT well!

    Yippee! Woohoo! Hoorah!

    *Huge grin*
    05 April

    Didn't get the job.

The job interview wasn't what I expected. He didn't ask me very many questions, and the questions he did ask were closed answer questions.

At least he was kind enough to ring up and tell me I hadn't got the job.

Anyway, I had better get back to writing some cold-canvassing letters if I want to have enough jobs applied for by Tuesday!

    Job interview tomorrow

I have a job interview tomorrow. I predict it will be a group interview. It's for a call-centre operator, mostly inbound calls.

I suppose I should be preparing. I really wasn't expecting to get an interview. It was one of my space filler applications for my participation record. The sort where I think, 'that looks good, I'll go for that even though I don't think I'll go to the next stage'.

    Work on Thursday

On Thursday morning, we got a call from Doug, one of the managers from our office saying he had lost his keys to the company car, and he was in Sydney.

There was a lot of activity over finding out costing for a courier to send the spare keys, and a lot of time wasted on that too. It was going to cost over $500. So it was decided to send Bob (a community support worker) down to deliver the spare key to Doug. I got to accompany Bob to Sydney to help navigate.

So apart from a bit under an hour in the morning, and lunch in the afternoon, my whole work day was spent travelling to and from Sydney. I didn't have to put in much effort to help Bob. Also, I got to put an extra hour on my pay sheet, even though I got home about 20 mins earlier than I usually do, because it was spent in the car.

I got to have my lunch paid for out of petty cash.

That was probably the easiest and best work day for me, ever.

    Tuesday

On the way home from work last Tuesday one of my friends got on the same carriage as me.

That was pretty cool. She and I talked for a bit until my stop.

    Work VIP

At work on Friday, they had a VIP come in. Regional Manager or something. As far as their department is concerned he is second only to the Minister. James Christian.

Anyway, that wasn't as exciting as I thought it would be. It was just like any other day for me. I didn't meet him or anything. I saw him walking around a bit, and people acted quieter than usual.

    Work

Well I've been doing temporary full-time work for just over a week now. It's fairly repetitive stuff, but hey, it's good experience. Also, I have noticed I feel healthier because of the walking to and from the train station.

I have noticed I have lost weight around my face, my tummy flab seems a bit softer and looser, and I think I may be starting to lose a little weight there too.

I'll try to keep fit once my job has finished too. I like feeling healthy.

    Temporary full-time work

    I have a four week job. Working 9 - 5, Weekdays (Monday - Friday).

It's in Nowra and I start on Wednesday. I am looking forward to it!

It's through Focus Personnel. Focus is my employer, but I am doing work for the Department of Aging, Disability and Homecare. Focus is like hiring me out, if you know what I mean? Also when I have finished the temp job Focus will be my reference, not DADHC.

I've forgotten what the pay rate is, I think it is minimum wage. But that doesn't matter, it will be good experience, a job is a job. I will find out on Monday or Tuesday when I get the package of forms I have to fill out.

It will be office admin assistant stuff. So I will be doing clerical things like filing, and some typing, answering phones and stuff.

And another good thing is that it doesn't automatically void my centrelink payments! I have to go 6 fortnights over the maximum number of hours before the pay is cancelled. And another good thing is because I will be working over the max hours I don't have to do the looking for work requirement while I have the full-time temp job. I will still have to submit the hours worked and pay earned and stuff, but I can get some form that lets me send someone else to the centrelink for me because it's a full-time job.

I am very happy. *Big grin*

    Job Interview Tomorrow

I have a job interview tomorrow. Yay!

It's a temporary job. It lasts one month.

    It's working 9 - 5, 5 days a week, I think.

It's with the Department of Ageing, Disability and Homecare.

I would be an office admin assistant, or something like that, and would be doing stuff like filing, answering phones, etc.

The thing  I have been spending a lot of time worrying about is how to get there. Should I walk from the station or should I catch a bus?

I am finding it difficult to find the bus timetables, and the bus timetables I have found I find confusing.

Looking at a map I found online, it seems to be only about 2.25 - 3 km from the station to the street. If I walk at 2km/hr then it should only take me a bit over an hour to walk there. Of course, if it is about 3 km then walking on a rainy, cold and miserable day might not be so fun. But imagine how good it would be for my health to walk that far 5 days a week! If I pack my lunch instead of buying junk food, then I am bound to feel more healthy by the end of the month.

I am a bit worried about my ingrown toenail though. It's not fixed yet, and I am worried about having to get minor surgery to fix it. How will this affect me wearing enclosed shoes? How will this affect my ability to walk? If I don't have the minor surgery and continue to treat it with soaking and pulling back will it get worse? The infection is back. Will I need to go on yet another course of antibiotics?

I also have to worry about getting there on time without being sweaty. I will walk at a leisurely pace and time it. I will stop by the information centre on my way there (taking note so as to deduct the stop from the time taken). If I get the job and I find that it took too long (I don't want to have to catch the earlier train), then I will catch a bus. I reckon I would be able to get information about busses at the information centre.

    Unemployment benefits

Today I went in to Centrelink and finalised my claim for Newstart Allowance and now I have unemployment benefits!

I have to fill in this jobsearch diary for it. 10 jobs per fortnight and have to be varied, like can't just all email off applications, and can't get all the jobs I applied for from once source like jobsearch.

But finally I have a steady income! This will make finding a job easier, because now I will have support and can move to a location with better work opportunities.

Though I think I will wait until after I get my P's. When I get my P's that will make finding work even easier.'
